TAKING A BREAK - MY WEEK IN YORKSHIRE
It was time for a break. After working 6-7 day weeks since September 2020, I was tired and ready for a change of scenery. Like most of us during this pandemic, my footprint has not ventured much further than my postcode recently, and as someone who loves to travel and explore, I’ve found it difficult. That’s why when my small team announced they would be away the following week, I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to pack my bags and have a much-needed rest.
At first I toyed with the idea of going abroad. My sister has a villa in Majorca and she told me to go and take a break there. However a good friend of mine recently traveled to Spain and said it was a complete nightmare trying to keep up with all of the testing you have to do. There was also the matter of my dog, Sophie - as much as possible I like to have her with me, so I decided that I would take a staycation in the UK.
Yorkshire is one of the most beautiful regions in the UK, and a relatively short journey by train from Edinburgh. I decided to stay in Pickering, an ancient market town in North Yorkshire with plenty of scenic countryside, walks, good food, and things to do. I stayed at The White Swan Inn - a family run boutique hotel full of charm with the loveliest rooms and friendliest staff. They made me feel so welcome and my time there was exactly what the doctor ordered.
