In my latest YOUTUBE VIDEO I talked about how it is the small acts of beauty that really improve life and bring joy. That video was focused on skincare, but today I wanted to expand on that premise and share with you some more ways in which you can make your life more beautiful.
I hope you enjoy this blog and find it useful. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #makinglifemorebeautiful on Instagram to share the ways you are making your life more beautiful!
ELEVATE YOUR TEA & COFFEE BREAKS
The moments when we get to pause for an energising cup of coffee or a refreshing tea are special and important. Just think how much more enjoyable they could be if you took a little extra effort to elevate this time and focus on the details.
It is all to easy to rush this moment, pouring your hot drink into a lumpy mug and getting on with your day. However, simply replacing that mug with a more elegant vessel will change your life and improve your day. To really maximise the moment, prepare a little tray with all of your tea things and add a single flower in a bud vase.
DITCH THE PLASTIC IN YOUR KITCHEN
A few years ago whilst washing the dishes at home I suddenly realised how ugly everything looked. Plastic dish brushes, dish soap in more plastic, and dish cloths in hazardous shades of red and white. I decided there and then to look for something more beautiful - we spend a lot of time in these spaces so we should not leave them as an afterthought.
Simply ridding your kitchen of this plastic assault will not only make the room more harmonious, and make doing chores a lot more pleasurable, it is also great for the environment.
CHIC-UP YOUR LOUNGEWEAR
We are all spending more time than ever before at home. Although I like to get dressed every day so that I can be as productive as possible, I also have days when I crave comfort. This does not mean that I don’t bother having a shower or doing my hair, it means that I get ready for the day as normal but wear the cosiest clothes I can find.
For chic loungewear look for knitted suits in wool, or even better, cashmere. The one I’m wearing is FROM ZARA and I chose it because it still looks elegant despite the casualness of the style. If Sophie needs a quick walk I can throw on an overcoat and still look acceptable in front of the neighbours.
SCENTS MAKE SENSE
Scent has been an important environment enhancer for thousands of years. There is nothing I love more after a long day than striking a match and lighting a beautiful candle.
I was recently gifted a Cire Trudon candle by a dear friend and I have become slightly obsessed by this extremely elegant brand which was established in the 1600’s and supplied fragrances to the Royal Court of France. Odalisque - the candle I was gifted has top notes of orange blossom - perhaps my all time favourite scent.
BEAUTIFY YOUR WORKSPACE
Working from home was one of the most used phrases of 2020. I have been working from home for the last ten years and I couldn’t do so productively without the right setting. Taking the time to really think about the smallest detail will improve your working day endlessy and bring more joy to your life.
It is often said that you should have nothing in your home that you don’t believe to be beautiful or useful - why not have both? Look at every item on your desk and see if there is a way to improve it. How are your pens and other stationery stored? Could they be held in something more beautiful? I found a decoupage pen holder in a junk store about two years ago and it is one of my most treasured items - I just love looking at it.
Little baskets and trinket dishes are also great for sprucing up your desk. I have a rattan tray to hold documents and letters. I also have an Italian ceramic leaf dish to hold my little scissors. My tape dispenser and stapler are painted with little flowers and look so much nicer than the usual.
